Three Lions Receive Conference Academic Honors

Senior middle blocker Jane Latu, junior setter Jackie Orr, and sophomore outside hitter Brittany Williams were honored for their academic achievement by being named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. Latu, a senior accounting major from Watauga, Texas, recorded 182 kills in 86 games and finished fourth on the team by averaging 2.00 kills per game. She also garnered Lone Star Conference Honorable Mention honors as a junior in 2005. Orr, a junior education major from Mesquite, Texas, led the Lions in assists with 740 and finished fourth on the team in digs by recording 215 in 101 games. Orr, who also holds the school record for assists in a match (73) averaged 7.33 assists per game in 2006. Williams, a junior accounting major from Deer Park, Texas, finished second on the team in digs with 397, third in kills with 426 and led the team in service aces by registering 39 on the season. The Lone Star Conference All-Academic Teams are voted upon by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All qualifying student-athletes not voted to the All-Academic Teams are then placed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
