Volleyball Preview: Southeastern Oklahoma

THE PACK RETURNS HOME The Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions dug back into action this past week in Denton, during the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament, Friday and Saturday. The Lions won all three games against opponents Angelou State, Eastern New Mexico, and Tarleton State University with the commanding scores of 3-0, 3-2 and 3-2 respectively. The ladies now 9-13 overall, have geared themselves up for this week's conference match up against Southeastern Oklahoma State University Lady Savages on Tuesday, at the A&M- Commerce Field House. It will be the first time the Lions have been home since Oct. 1. COMPETEING AGANIST THE SAVAGES A&M-Commerce comes into this week series with new momentum after their three victories this week. The Lady Savages also competed in crossover action this past weekend, coming from two 3-0 victories and a 3-2 over Angelou State, Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico, respectively. The last time the Lions and Lady Savages met was in early season play on Sept. 20, in Durant, Okla, where they fell 3-1 in the series. Since 1978, the Lions are 13-3 against the Lady Savages, to which the Lions have beaten them seven of the those times in the Field house. In their last meeting, the Lions lost their conference opener to the Savages in Durant, where the ladies had two Lions reach double figures in kills to beat the Lady Savages in attack percentage during the game. THE LIONS IN ACTIONS The Lions (9-13,1-3 LSC North) were lead this weekend action by middle blocker Colleen Favaro who tabbed the game winning block, along with junior middle blocker Jane Latu. Favaro also stuck 15 on of her 40 kill attempts against the TexAnns. Others with outstanding games in the crossover series were junior setter Alicia Capparelli contributing with a game high of 49 assists against the TexAnns and outside hitter Tosha Spain, who had a career high of 10 aces in the game against the Zias of Eastern New Mexico.
In the last meeting against the Savages, Favaro and freshman Regan Jesse reached double figures in kills with 15 and 10. Sophmore Jackie Orr also had a good conference play break out game, with 24 digs and 19 assist against the Savages. SOSU are coming off of a 3-0 run at the LSC conference tournament, and will continue away game play this week against the Lions. This season the Lady Savages are 2-1 this season for playing in opponent territory. Ladies to look after this game will be outside hitter Olivia Franceskini who hit a match high match-high 25 kills against the Lions in their last meeting. Outside hitter Kristen Stevens added 12 kills in the meeting, while middle blocker Jennifer Landry hit a team high with seven blocks. |
