Volleyball Signs Two Recruits From Houston Area

May 2, 2007

Commerce, Texas

The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team and head coach Gwen Weatherford announced the signing of two recruits from the Houston area.

The addition of Rachel Lance and Terra Ousley will help bolster a solid frontline attack for the Lions in 2007, on a team that already features two all-conference performers in Colleen Favaro and Wannie Neal and an all-region performer in Lauren Flynn.

Lance, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Katy, Texas, earned second team all-district and team MVP accolades while leading Cinco Ranch High School to a district championship and the bi-district finals as a senior. She also received academic all-district honors in both her junior and senior seasons.

Ousley, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Houston, Texas, garnered second team all-district honors and was also named to the academic all-district team as a senior at Westfield High School. She was also named the team's most improved player as a sophomore.

Lions head volleyball coach Gwen Weatherford looks for both to make an immediate impact. "I am so excited about Rachel and Terra. Both of these girls had multiple Division I looks which makes me very proud that they have chosen to make A&M-Commerce their new home. They have size, talent and a wonderful work ethic to go with it. I expect them to do great things for us and be players to watch for," said Weatherford.

The Lions open the 2007 regular season in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament, which begins on August 24.
