Volleyball Diaries

April 5, 2006

Hi, everyone. I'm excited to be sharing my experiences as spring workouts progress. It has been an exciting time for us and we have been working hard.

We have been back in the gym for the past few weeks working on improving our record and accomplishing many goals we have set during the offseason. The first few weeks we lifted three days a week and did cardio Tuesdays and Thursdays. Everyone has significantly benefited from the intense workouts, and many of the players have increased their verticals and become stronger and faster. The main goal we have set as a team is to be perfect in all aspects of the game. We have done a lot of repetition in practice when it comes to drills, but I have noticed as the weeks go on we continue to improve the time it takes to reach our goal.

This past weekend we hosted a tournament that consisted of a few strong teams in our conference. Coming into the tournament I was a little nervous because we had yet to put it all together in practice. We ended up playing very well together as a team and stayed focused on the things that we said would make us better. Not only did we beat one of our biggest rivals from last season, Southeastern Oklahoma State, we also beat the other two teams, which enabled us to walk away with our heads held high.

This week, we will concentrate on connecting with our setting and continue to perfect our game. We have a tournament this weekend in Denton, where we will actually get the chance to play another major rival, Texas Woman's, with the anticipation of walking away with a win.

Inside Scoop with Brittany Williams

When I am not on the volleyball court, you can find me practicing in the gym, in my dorm studying or working for the Athletic Department. I am taking a full load of difficult classes this semester, and I try to keep up with my homework. I'm a double major in industrial engineering and mathematics, the president of the Student-Athlete Advisor Committee and an active member in both the Chi Omega Sorority and the Institute for Industrial Engineers organization.
