Volleyball Falls to Texas Woman's

Despite hitting at a .212 clip, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 30-28, 30-27, 30-22 decision to host Texas Woman's on Thursday night.

The Lions (9-16, 3-7 LSC) were out hit by the Pioneers, .270 to .212. A&M-Commerce senior Colleen Favaro, who is 11th in the nation in kills per game, had a match-high 23 kills in the loss. Plus, teammates Brittany Williams had a match-high 45 assists and Lauren Flynn, who is 33rd in the nation in digs per game, had a match-high 26 digs. Texas Woman's (15-10, 6-4 LSC) was led by Kandis Schroeder, who had 16 kills and hit at a .609 clip.

A&M-Commerce held the lead for most of the opening game. With the Lions leading 26-24, TWU scored eight of the next 10 points en route to the 30-28 win. In the first game, TWU out hit A&M-Commerce, .246 to .183. Favaro had eight kills to lead the A&M-Commerce attack. In game two, Favaro added 10 more kills and hit at a .208 percentage. For TWU, Schroeder added eight kills and hit at .636 average to lead the Pioneers to a 30-27 win. In the decisive third game, after an early exchange of tie scores, the Pioneers raced out to an 18-11 advantage. The Lions would get as close as five down the stretch. In game three, the TWU attack had three different players with four kills and Favaro and freshman Rachel Lance paced an A&M-Commerce attack with five kills.

The Lions will go out of the rigors of the Lone Star Conference for its next match when they face Harding on Saturday in Searcy, Arkansas at 2 p.m. The Lady Bisons are 22-8 overall and 9-1 in the Gulf South Conference.
