Lions Lose to Abilene Christian

Oct. 18, 2007

Box Score

Host Abilene Christian out hit Texas A&M-Commerce .330 to .187 in a 30-20, 30-19, 30-24 win in Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night.

The Lions (8-15, 2-6 LSC) were led by senior Colleen Favaro, who shared in match-high honors with 13 kills. Six of the kills came in the first game for the San Antonio, Texas native.

The Wildcats (10-11, 5-2 LSC) had two players - Shawna Hines and Krystine Cethoute - post double-digit kills, 13 and 11, respectively.

In a closely contested first game, the two teams exchanged leads until an 8-2 run midway by host ACU led the Wildcats to the opening game victory. Cethoute and Hines each had five kills in the first game win to lead ACU. In the second game, like the first game, the two teams battled to a 7-7 tie to begin the game. ACU went on a decisive 18-5 run, where they capitalized on hitting errors by the Lions. In the third game, the two teams were tied at 15 before a pair of service aces by Amy Wilson and an attack error by the Lions put the Tigers in ahead, 19-16. Later in the game, A&M-Commerce would get as close as two but not close enough.

In the loss, A&M-Commerce sophomore Lauren Flynn had a match-high 28 digs and junior Brittany Williams had 30 assists. For the Tigers, Ijeoma Morono had 38 service assists and Wilson had 17 digs in the win.

The Lions will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they face Angelo State. The Rambelles are coming off a straight-set loss to Texas Woman's and are currently 6-16 overall and 4-3 in the Lone Star Conference.
