Box Score

Despite a match-high 21 kills from senior Colleen Favaro, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 30-32, 30-25, 30-27, 30-25 decision to Lone Star Conference leader West Texas A&M on Saturday.

The loss snaps a four-game home winning streak for the Lions, who for the 15th time in 22 matches they were victorious in the opening game. With the loss, A&M-Commerce falls to 8-14 overall and 2-5 in the LSC.

Three West Texas A&M (22-7 overall and 7-0 LSC) players recorded double-digit kills, including the double-double performance from Laura Prinsen, who had 19 kills and 18 digs.

In addition to the double-double performance from Favaro, A&M-Commerce senior Wannie Neal had 12 kills and a match-high four block solos in the loss.

The Lions out hit the Lady Buffs, .190 to .137 in the first game as Favaro had eight kills and freshman Terra Ousley added six. In game two after the two teams were tied at 12, A&M-Commerce would get no closer than two as Prinsen had seven kills as the Lady Buffs out hit the Lions, .342 to .286. In the third game, the Lions held a 14-11 lead midway through the game until a 6-0 run by the Lady Buffs put WTAMU ahead 17-14 and the Lions would battle back to tie the game at 25. The rally would not be enough as WTAMU took the third game by a 30-27 margin. In the decisive fourth game, the Lady Buffs out hit the Lions, .339 to .224 as Prinsen and teammate Melissa Harper each added six kills.

Next, A&M-Commerce will be on the road for its next four matches, including a contest against Abilene Christian on Thursday at 7 pm in Abilene.
