Volleyball Wins in Straight Sets Over Paul Quinn

Senior Colleen Favaro had a match-high 18 kills, the setter tandem of Brittany Williams and Jackie Orr had 27 and 18 assists, respectively and sophomore libero Lauren Flynn had a match-high 28 digs and six service aces to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team to its third-straight home win in a 30-19, 30-16, 30-17 victory over Paul Quinn on Tuesday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.

The Lions (6-11) hit .276 in the win and an aggressive front line play led the Tigers to hit -.080 in the match. Paul Quinn (3-7) got nine kills on 31 attempts from Sharday Frazier in the defeat.

Texas A&M-Commerce raced out to a 21-9 lead in the first game, capitalizing on three-straight PQC errors and as six-different players recorded a kill. Favaro had five kills to lead the attack and Flynn had two service aces and 10 digs in the opening game win.

A&M-Commerce hit at a .378 clip in its game two victory. In the win, Favaro added seven more kills, Williams and Orr each had eight assists and Flynn contributed 10 digs. In addition, the Lions scored seven-straight points on the service of Devin Friedman and three kills from senior Mandy Berger.

In the decisive game three, Favaro chipped in six more kills but it was three service aces and eight more digs by Flynn that clinched the match for the Lions. Plus, Williams also added nine assists in the win.
 

 

Next, the Lions will take to the road this weekend before returning home on Thursday, Oct. 11 to face Lone Star Conference foe, Eastern New Mexico at 7 pm.
