VOLLEYBALL MARCHES 3-1 AT HOME

Oct. 1, 2005

Final Stats

COMMERCE - Led by Colleen Favaro's season-high 34 kills, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's volleyball team served up a dominating 3-1 Lone Star Conference North win Saturday at home to Midwestern State.

The Lions, improving to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in the LSC North, produced their most successful offensive output of the season on scores of 31-29, 32-34, 30-24, and 30-27.

"I'm really proud of how we played today," Lion head coach Gwen Weatherford said of the team's first North Division win of the season.

The Lady Indians (14-7, 1-3 LSC North) could manage just a shade over 10 percent attacking.

Favaro also set a season high for attacking percentage (56.6) as the Lions on the whole hit 30.1 percent., the highest rate since an October 2004 win against Oklahoma Panhandle State.

Three Lions finished with double-digits in kills. Jane Latu spotted18 kills, while Tosha Spain and Jennifer Hill added 10 each.

Amy Addison added 10 digs and was solid with a 21.4 attack percentage for 10 kills. She at outside hitter and Spain at middle blocker showed the team's depth with both having to play new positions for the match.

"When you have four hitters that are all over the 200s in hitting," Weatherford said, "it makes quite a difference. It was a good win."

A kill from Hill and a pair from Favaro gave the Lions three consecutive points to end the first game.

The Lady Indians captured the next game 34-32 on some late errors by the Lions. But the Lions would lead throughout the next two games.

A 7-0 service run by Hill gave the third game in hand to A&M-Commerce. Favaro added 12 kills in the final game to boost the Lions to their second win at the A&M-Commerce Field House in three contests.

Alicia Capparelli made 47 assists in three games on the floor. Brittany Williams found a game-high 23 digs.

Shay Velasquez had 12 kills and 14 digs in the loss, both team highs.

The Lions make way for LSC North action on the road beginning Oct. 6 at Cameron (Okla.), returning home Oct. 18 against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
