Volleyball Loses to Midwestern State, 30-20, 37-35, 30-23

Despite a match-high 16 kills from senior Colleen Favaro, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 30-20, 37-35, 30-23 decision to host Midwestern State on Saturday night.

The Lions (3-9, 0-2 LSC) were out hit by the Mustangs, .250-to.147 in the loss. In addition to the 16 kills from Favaro, the Lions had nine blocks; including a season-high five block assists from freshman Terra Ousley

Midwestern State (14-2, 2-0 LSC) had two players with double digit kills, including 14 from Krissa Johnson and 10 more from Jessica Ransom in the win. Allison Schreiber had a match-high 45 assists and was one of three Mustangs to record double figures digs with 10. MSU also had nine service aces in the win.

With the opening game tied at five, the Mustangs went on a 13-3 run to take an 18-8 lead en route to the opening game victory. In game two, the two teams exchanged the lead throughout the game. Favaro had nine kills for the Lions, but it was the Mustangs, who capitalized on four service aces to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. In the decisive third game, Johnson had six kills as MSU clinched the match, outhittting the Lions .310 to .093.

Next, the Lions will return to Commerce for their first home match of the season on Thursday at 7 pm when they take on Southeastern Oklahoma State. Earlier this year, the Lions dropped a 26-30, 30-15, 30-38, 30-20 decision to the Savage Storm at the Texoma Challenge.
