Volleyball Drops Conference Opener to Cameron

In its 2007 Lone Star Conference opener, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 30-28, 30-16, 30-27 decision to host Cameron on Thursday night. The Aggies (6-7) outhit the Lions .144 to .100 in the win. In the victory, Cameron's Fernanda Quieroz had a match-high 15 kills and Laura Ellerbrock had 26 assists. In the loss, A&M-Commerce (3-8), senior middle blocker Colleen Favaro had a team-high 15 kills. Junior setter Brittany Williams had 17 assists to go along with a team-high nine digs; plus, freshman outside hitter Rachel Lance added three block assists. The Lions led for most of game one until a 6-1 run at the end of the opening game by Cameron led the host Aggies to the 30-28 victory. In game two, the Aggies led from start-to-finish en route to the 30-16 victory. In game three, the Lions led 14-11 on a Brittany Williams kill. Cameron answered with the next six points to take a 17-14 lead. The Lions managed to rally to tie the game at 18 and would tie it again at 23 and 24. However, the host Aggies had the answer with a four-point spurt on a pair of Quieroz kills to clinch the match. Next for A&M-Commerce is a trip on Saturday to face Midwestern State in Wichita Falls at 7 p.m.
