Heading into her seventh year as a head coach, including the last four years at her alma mater, head coach Gwen Weatherford brings valuable knowledge of both the institution and the game of volleyball.

In four years as the head coach at Texas A&M-Commerce, Weatherford has coached 12 all-Lone Star Conference selections. Prior to returning to Texas A&M-Commerce, she was the head coach at Atlantic Sun Conference and NCAA Division I institution Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

She served as an assistant coach at the University of North Texas in 2000 and 2001. Before lending a hand to the Denton, Texas-based university, she took the reigns at NCAA Division III Concordia University in 1999, winning the American Southwest Conference regular season and tournament championships with a 23-6 overall record, including a 10-0 conference mark, while guiding several student-athletes to prominent all-conference honors.

Weatherford, played as Wendy Adams from 1994-97 and was a graduate assistant in 1998 for the Lions. She ranks fifth all time in career digs list with 1,088 and 11th in kills with 972 in the Texas A&M-Commerce record book. She earned honorable mention all-Lone Star Conference honors as a junior, leading the team with 389 kills. As a senior, she repeated both accomplishments, including a career-high 394 kills in her final season.

A native of Mesquite who attended West Mesquite High School, Weatherford resides in Commerce with her husband, John.
