Lions Earn Recognition from Lone Star Conference
Oct. 31, 2006
Commerce, Texas
With a runner-up finish at the recent Lone Star Conference Championships, the Texas A&M-Commerce women's soccer team landed three players on the all-tournament team. Earning recognition were forward Bailey Geels, midfielder Jessica Pierce and defender Tamara Geels. The Lions rose from the No. 4 seed and advanced to the championship game, where they dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to host Central Oklahoma. Also, in soccer news, Pierce was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team and teammate Haylee Williams was named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The All-Academic Team is selected by the league's sports information directors, who vote on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Texas A&M-Commerce ended the 2006 season with a 12-8-3 overall mark, including wins over then-No. 2 Metro State (2-1, OT) and regionally ranked Regis and Barry. The Lions will graduate three seniors - Celia Cross, Amber Ramoz and Tia Rew, who all were integral to the success of the soccer program.
