Texas A&M-Commerce Soccer Sweeps Weekly Lone Star Conference Honors

Commerce, TexasOn Thursday, Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer players - Bailey Geels and Jennifer Alvarado were named the Lone Star Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

The Lions swept the weekly honors after its first week of conference action with a 4-1 win over Northeastern State and followed that up with a 4-0 shutout of East Central.

Bailey Geels, a senior forward from McKinney, Texas (McKinney North HS), scored three goals in the Lions' conference opening weekend against Northeastern State and East Central. She scored two goals for the third time in 2007 in a 4-1 win over NSU and also against the Riverhawks, she had a career-high twelve shots-seven of the shots were on goal. For the season, Bailey leads the team with eight goals, 46 shots and 25 shots on goal.

Jennifer Alvarado, a sophomore goalkeeper, Southlake, Texas (Carroll HS) allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of the start of Lone Star Conference play for the Lions.

She recorded her third shutout of the season in the 4-0 win over East Central. Furthermore, she gave up a goal against Northeastern State and it is the second time on the season that she has given up just one goal.

The Lions are back in action on Friday in Weatherford, Oklahoma as they face Southwestern Oklahoma at 4 pm and on Sunday in Edmond, Oklahoma as they face No. 22 Central Oklahoma.
