Ramoz and DoRemus Receive Lone Star Conference Player of the Week Recognition
Oct. 3, 2006
Commerce, Texas
Senior goalkeeper Amber Ramoz and sophomore midfielder Melissa DoRemus were named the Lone Star Conference defensive and offensive players of the week, respectively, for their part in the Lions back-to-back 2-1 victories over Regis and No. 2 Metro State. Ramoz, a Dallas native, shutout Regis and Metro State for a combined 155:48 and recorded five saves to help the Lions earn two key regional victories. She allowed a goal in the first minute of the contest against Regis and did not allow another goal until the 66th minute of the Metro State game, which came by way of a penalty kick. In Sunday's win over Metro State, Ramoz faced 13 shots and recorded four saves to assist in limiting one of the nation's most prolific scoring attacks to only one goal. Ramoz currently leads the conference in shutouts (5), ranks second in save percentage (.846), and third in saves (77) and goals-against average (.95). DoRemus, a Mesquite native, scored two goals and added an assist to help lead the Lions to victories over Regis and Metro State. DoRemus scored both of the Lions goals against Regis, one in the ninth minute to tie the game at one and another in the 39th minute to seal the Lions 2-1 victory. In Sunday's 2-1 upset victory over then-undefeated, No. 2 Metro State, DoRemus assisted on a Tamara Geels' goal in the 89th minute to tie the game and send it into overtime. DoRemus, who finished second on the team in scoring a year ago, has three goals and one assist in 14 starts in 2006. The Lions currently sit atop the Lone Star Conference standings with a record of 3-0-1, with Friday's opponent Central Oklahoma in a close second at 3-0-0. A&M-Commerce also moved up to No. 6 from No. 8 in the NSCAA/adidas Midwest Regional Rankings. Friday's contest with Central Oklahoma is slated for 4 p.m. and Sunday's game against Southwestern Oklahoma, which marks the Lions final home game of the season, is scheduled to start at noon. Both matches will take place at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.
