Jennifer Alvarado Makes Crucial Save and Scores Game-Winning Penalty Kick in LSC Quarterfinal Win Over Texas Woman's

Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado made a save on the fifth and final penalty kick attempt and came down the field and converted the final attempt for the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer to lead the Lions to a quarterfinal win over Texas Woman's in the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The match officially goes down as a 1-1 tie, but A&M-Commerce prevailed 5-4 in penalty kicks.

The Southlake, Texas native made two saves in the 110-minute match, but her biggest save was the stop of a Jacqueline Horner on the fifth shot of the penalty kick shootout.

A&M-Commerce sophomore Meagan Lasley picked up the rebound on a shot by Bailey Geels in the fourth minute to put the Lions in front 1-0. The Lions held a 1-0 lead until TWU's Sue Cribbes found the back of the net in the 71st minute on a rebound shot of her own that ricochet off the post.

For the season, the Lions are now 9-9-2 and Texas Woman's ends its season with an 8-9-3 mark. A&M-Commerce out shot Texas Woman's, 18-to-9 in the win as Lasley led the attack with five shots, including four on goal.

With the win, the Lions advance to the semifinals and will face the host and No. 1 seeded Central Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. in Edmond.
