Freshman forward Meagan Lasley recorded her first goal of the season in the third minute of overtime to lead the Lions to a 2-1 upset victory over West Texas A&M on Friday at Tom Thomspon Field and to advance the Lions into the championship game of the Lone Star Conference tournament.

The Lions broke a scoreless tie in the 43rd minute when junior forward Bailey Geels netted a goal from 12 yards out to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Senior defender Celia Cross kicked the ball high into gusty wind conditions and Geels trapped the ball and beat the Lady Buffs goalkeeper, Lisha Jungmann, to score her seventh goal of the season.

West Texas A&M outshot A&M-Commerce 5-3 and both teams registered one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Lady Buffs answered with a goal in the 66th minute to even the score at one. Brianna McMillian crossed the ball from the left side of the field and Sally DeJongh headed the ball past Amber Ramoz to tie the contest.

The two teams battled for the remainder of regulation, but neither team could break the 1-1 tie. The Lady Buffs outshot A&M-Commerce 6-4 in the second period and West Texas A&M managed the only corner kick of the half.

In overtime, Lasley took a through pass from sophomore midfielder Melissa DoRemus and chipped the ball over the Lady Buffs goalie in the 93rd minute, to end the contest and to give the Lions the upset victory.

With the win A&M-Commerce advances to Sunday's championship game where they will face the winner of Friday's second match between Midwestern State and the top-seeded Central Oklahoma Bronchos at 1 pm.
