Lions Post 3-1 Win Over Abilene Christian

Oct. 26, 2007

Box Score

The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat host Abilene Christian on Friday afternoon.

A&M-Commerce (9-9, 5-4 LSC) sophomore Meagan Lasley was involved with all three Lions goals in the win. The Mesquite, Texas native got the game-tying goal in the 36th minute when she beat the ACU goalkeeper with a shot from the left side for her 10th goal of the season. She added assists on the game-winning goal by freshman Chelsey Haight in the 63rd minute and an insurance goal by senior Cheryl Canavan in the 71st minute.

Haight, a freshman from Granbury, scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute when she fired a shot from the right side from five-yards out. It is the fourth goal on the season and her second game-winning goal of the year. Canavan scored her first A&M-Commerce goal when she capitalized on a crossing pass from Lasley in the 71st minute for the extra tally. The Lions sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado had five saves in the win.

Abilene Christian (8-11, 3-6 LSC) took a 1-0 lead when Sadie Barton scored in the 29th minute on a 15-yard crossing pass from teammate Katie Miller for the early lead. The Wildcats, who are in their first year of intercollegiate soccer, had a chance to regain the lead early in the second half when a Barton shot was blocked by Alvarado in the 51st minute. Again, ACU challenged the A&M-Commerce defense in the 67th and 68th minutes; however, both attempts were saved by the Lions keeper.

The Lions will wrap up its regular season on Sunday with a 1 pm match at Angelo State.
