Oct. 19, 2007
The Texas A&M-Commerce women's soccer team beat the Eastern New Mexico defense on a pair of goals for a 2-0 win on Friday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Complex.
A&M-Commerce (8-8 overall, 4-3 Lone Star Conference) sophomore Meagan Lasley put the Lions in front 1-0 when she beat ENMU goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez on a 1-on-1 play in the 25th minute that bounced off the lower right post and into the goal. After missing an early opportunity in the 60th minute, senior Bailey Geels scored in the 75th minute on a header when sophomore Lacy Alexander fed her a pass on a 30-yard free kick for the 2-0 advantage. In the win, the Lions out shot the Zias, 19-to-7 and sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado made two saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. The victory also snaps a three-game losing streak for the Lions. A&M-Commerce returns to the field on Sunday at 1 pm for its final home match of the season as they will host West Texas A&M. Prior to the match, the Lions will honor its four seniors - Erika Bonola, Cheryl Canavan, Bailey and Tamara Geels.
