Commerce, Texas

Sophomore midfielders Jessica Pierce and Melissa DoRemus each scored a goal to help in handing Texas Woman's a 2-0 defeat in Tuesday's rescheduled match in Denton, Texas.

After a Celia Cross corner kick, Pierce put the ball into the back of the net in the 28th minute to give Texas A&M-Commerce an early 1-0 advantage.

The Lions (9-6-3, 4-2-1) struck again in the 62nd minute to take a 2-0 lead and to put the game out of reach for the Lady Pioneers. Junior forward Bailey Geels passed the ball into the box and DoRemus headed it in to seal the victory.

A&M-Commerce outshot the Lady Pioneers 14-11 and registered six more shots on goal than TWU (9-3). A&M-Commerce also tallied 10 corner kicks to the Lady Pioneers' four.

In the win, senior goalkeeper Amber Ramoz chalked up her seventh shutout of the season and the 24th of her career. Ramoz needs two more shutouts to tie the school record set by Sarah Fagan over her four-year career from 1999-2002.

Pierce led all players with four shots and three shots on goal, while DoRemus and senior forward Tia Rew each recorded three shots.

Texas Woman's (4-11-2, 1-5-1) Melissa Williams led the Lady Pioneers with three shots and one shot on goal and goalkeeper Aly Vincent recorded seven saves in the loss.

Next, the Lions travel to Canyon, Texas to face Lone Star Conference-rival West Texas A&M on Friday at 3 p.m.
