A&M-Commerce Falls to Midwestern State, 3-1

Two goals within the first 13 minutes by host Midwestern State led the host Mustangs to a 3-1 over Texas A&M University-Commerce win in Lone Star Conference action on Friday night.

Midwestern State (8-2-2 overall and 4-1 LSC) capitalized on an early clearing attempt in the fifith minute and added an additional tally in the 13th minute on a Brandy O'Neal to take a 2-0 lead.

A&M-Commerce (7-8 overall and 3-3 LSC) sophomore Lacy Alexander collected the ball in the front of the box and found the back of the net in the 26th minute, scoring her second goal of the season to trim the Midwestern State lead to 2-1. The Mustangs added a third and final goal in the first 45 minutes when Ashli Smith scored on a cross from the right wing for the final margin.

In the loss, A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado made seven saves in 90 minutes of action. The host Mustangs out shot the Lions, 18-to-12, in the win as 11-different players recorded a shot.

A&M-Commerce will have its final homestand on the return home for its next two matches when they host Eastern New Mexico, next Friday, at 3 pm and West Texas A&M, next Sunday, at 1 pm at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Complex.
