COMMERCE, TX - The A&M-Commerce (6-5-1, 1-2-1) soccer team made up for its recent struggles by lighting up the scoreboard in Sunday's victory over East Central (2-10, 0-4).
Following a six game winless streak, the Lions offense came to life by tying school records for most goals scored in a game with 10, and most goals scored in a half with 7. The record dates back to the team's first year in existence, 1996.
Erin de Wolfe continued her sparkling offensive play. She scored a goal and set a school record for assists in a game with five.
Melissa DoRemus, who finished the contest with a hat trick, headed in the team's first goal of the game off a de Wolfe corner kick.
With 20:58 on the clock, Freshman Jessica Pierce, who finished the game with a hat trick of her own, headed in her first goal off another de Wolfe corner kick. Pierce also added two assists. The two hat tricks by Pierce and DoRemus marked the first time that two hat tricks have been recorded in one game and only the third time in school history that a hat trick has been registered. It also becomes the first time in school history that two freshman score a hat trick in the same game.
Amber Ramoz picked up the victory in goal and tallied her first goal of the season as a midfielder. The junior is the first player in A&M-Commerce soccer history to accomplish that feat. She also added six saves for the Lions.
Other players contributing to the offensive onslaught included: Celia Cross (1 goal, 1 assist), Bailey Geels (1 goal), and Melissa Arnold (3 assists).
With the win A&M-Commerce earned their first Lone Star Conference victory and remain undefeated at home.
The Lions will travel to Weatherford, Okla., Friday to take on conference foe Southwestern Oklahoma State. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
