COMMERCE -
The Texas A&M-Commerce women's soccer team recorded their first tie of the 2005 season, a 0-0 blanking Friday afternoon against Lone Star Conference rival Northeastern State.
The Lions and the Lady Reds (4-6-1) battled it out for 110 minutes to no avail. Both teams had numerous opportunities to lace in game winners, but the defensive play for both squads, complimented with outstanding goalkeeping, controlled the tempo all evening.
With the aforementioned tie, the Lion's record stands a 5-5-1 overall, 0-2-1 in conference. The team now embarks on a stretch that will see them play six consecutive games against conference foes to round out the regular season.
Erin de Wolfe was once again the catalyst for the Lion's offense. De Wolfe fired two shots on goal, and took three shots total; however none of her shots found the net. Melissa Arnold, Jessica Pierce, and Melissa DoRemus also contributed shots on goal, only to see Chelsea Hill for the Lady Reds snare them.
A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Stacey McDaniel had a stellar outing amassing five saves and keeping the Lady Red offense at bay for the games entirety. McDaniel has only allowed one goal this season in shared duties with fellow goalkeeper Amber Ramoz.
A&M-Commerce's next game will come at home as they welcome the East Central Lady Tigers to Commerce on Sunday. East Central (2-8, 0-2) enters the game in the middle of a six game losing skid. Game time for that contest is set for 1 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.
