Box Score

Commerce, Texas

Twin sisters Bailey and Tamara Geels scored three goals within nine minutes of each other to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce to a 3-1 win over Texas A&M-International on Sunday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Complex.

The Lions (3-3) out shot the Dust Devils 25-6 in the win, including a commanding 18-4 advantage in the first 20 minutes. Bailey Geels had a team-high and career-high seven shots in the win.

Texas A&M-International (1-5) recorded six shots in the loss, including a team-high three from Maxine Caballero.

A&M-Commerce got on the board 4:37 into the match when Bailey Geels scored the first of her two goals when she took a crossing pass from freshman Megan Monroe for a shot to the upper left corner for the early tally. The Lions extended its margin to 2-0 when Alex Germain set up Tamara Geels on a pass, which fired a shot to the top left corner.

Again, Bailey Geels and Megan Monroe collaborated for a Lions goal to stretch the lead to 3-0. It is the fifth goal of the season for Bailey Geels and the fifth assist on the season for Monroe.

A&M-International avoided the shutout when Dalia Hernandez recovered from a shot that hit the right post and eventually snuck in behind the Lions goalkeeper.

The Lions mounted a few threats in the second half; however, TAMIU goalkeeper Mary Jo Hall and the Dust Devils contained the A&M-Commerce attack.

For the Lions next home match on Tuesday at 4 pm, A&M-Commerce will celebrate US Youth Soccer Month against Dallas Baptist. Youth Soccer Month is dedicated to increasing awareness of the benefits of playing Youth Soccer in America. A&M-Commerce is proud to support this effort and further the goals of Youth Soccer Month:
