First Round Results in PDF Format

Sophomore Heather Pantalion and freshman Megan Benites shot a first round 82 to lead Texas A&M University-Commerce on the first day of the Grand Canyon Women's Invitational on Monday. For Benites, it is the best round of her career and was one of nine players in the 89-person field to shoot one under while playing the three par 5 holes.

The Lions shot a 335 and are in 14th place as the teams head into Tuesday's final round. St. Edward's, who is ranked No. 14 in the nation, leads the team race with a three-stroke advantage with a 307 over No. 18 Northern Kentucky and California Baptist, who is ranked No. 9 in NAIA. Stephanie Bird of Northeastern State is the individual leader with a one-under par 71. Bird has a two-stroke advantage, going into the final round.

A&M-Commerce junior Ali Tanner is two strokes behind Pantalion and Benites after shooting an 84 and is tied for 56th. Junior Jamie Gililland is tied for 72nd and freshman Mallory Kempf is tied for 82nd after posting an 87 and 92, respectively.

The final round for the Lions will begin at 9:40 am on hole #10.
