Commerce, Texas

Texas A&M University-Commerce head women's basketball coach Denny Downing announced today that the Lions have signed two more players including a Division I transfers and a junior college transfer for the 2007-08 season.

Nola Taylor, a 6-foot-1 forward from Oakland, California, was a second team all-city honoree and co-MVP of the Fremont High School team as a senior. She averaged a team-best 8.8 points, grabbed 4.2 rebounds and averaged a steal a game; in addition, Taylor shot 45% from the field at Midland Junior College in 2006-07. She spent the spring semester at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas.

Joining the Lions at the semester break was James Madison University transfer Angelique Robinson, a 6-foot-1 forward from Berkley, Michigan. At Berkley High School, she was a four-time all-state performer and was the runner up to Ms. Basketball in the state of Michigan as a senior. She averaged 20 points and 18 rebounds as a senior and 17 points and 17 rebounds a junior. She attended the Adidas Top Ten All-American Camp and selected for the Nike All-American Camp. As a freshman at James Madison, she saw action in 13 games for the Dukes.

On an update on earlier signees, Melissa Bratton, a 5-foot-11 forward from Mount Pleasant, Texas (Chapel Hill HS), was a two-year all-conference and all-region selection at Kilgore Junior College. At Kilgore, she played alongside Tradawn Short. She was a two-time all-conference and all-region selection, averaging 19 ppg, 8 rpg and 4 apg as a freshman and 15 ppg, 7 rpg and 6 apg as a sophomore. She went on to attend Louisiana-Lafayette, where she saw action in 28 games. She averaged seven points and 3.1 rebounds a game, plus she made 10 starts.

Genevieve Campbell of Rockwall, a 5-foot-7 guard, was an integral part of the Class 5A state champion team that went 40-0. Rockwall is one of only three schools in Texas history to post a 40-0 record and they ended the season ranked No. 4 in the nation by USA Today. She scored a game-high 26 points in the state semifinal win against Bryan and had 17 points and seven rebounds in the state championship win over Houston Cy-Fair. Campbell was named Class 5A All-State by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and to the Dallas Morning News Sports Day's All-Area team. She made 107 three pointers as a junior and 94 as a senior. For the third year in a row, Campbell was the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches single-season leader for three pointers made. Recently, she played in the TABC All-Star Game with the state's best players and scored 17 points in the narrow defeat. Campbell was listed as No. 8 by TexasHoops.com in the Class of 2007 Top 100 Girls.
