Commerce, TX - Kanani Marshal scored a career high 20 points and connected on three treys in leading the Lions to a 13-point upset over the #17 ranked Rambelles.
The win marked the first victory over a ranked opponent in head coach Denny Downing's four-year tenure.
The Lions took the lead 2-1 on a Rashida Wilson jumper 51 seconds into the contest and never looked back. A&M-Commerce went on to open up a 22-point lead with 1:09 remaining in the first half and cruised to the 90-77 victory, as five Lions registered double-figure scoring efforts.
Marshal's 20 points led the team, while Piggy Mosley poured in 19 points and ripped down nine rebounds for the Lions.
Althea Byfield scored 15 points as the Lions outscored the Rambelles 34-24 in the paint.
Jennifer McCord had a season high 10 points and Rashida Wilson scored 10 points, dished out six assists, and tallied five rebounds in continuing her multi-dimensional play.
The Lions shot 49% (29-59) from the floor and 55% (6-11) from behind the arc in earning the upset victory.
With the win A&M-Commerce improved to 3-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming at the hands of Division I opponent, Northwestern Louisiana State.
Angelo St. shot 50% from the floor and Britinee Davis led all scorers with 23 points. Davis also connected on 4-6 from three-point range.
A&M-Commerce forced 25 Rambelle turnovers, which led to 32 Lion points.
The Lions host Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon in the Field House. Abilene Christian enters the contest with an even 2-2 record. Start time for Saturday's game is slated for 2 p.m.
