Lions Drop Heartbreaker to Angelo State, 57-56

Rashida Wilson of Texas A&M-Commerce missed the second of two free throws with five seconds to go, who came down with her own rebound; however, Angelo State's Lauren Weishuhn stole the ball from the Lions' Britney Jordan to preserve a 57-56 win for the host Lady Belles on Thursday night.

The Lions held a lead on host Angelo State for the final 12 minutes of the opening half and the first 4:37 of the second half. With 15:53 left in the contest, the Lady Belles outscored Texas A&M-Commerce 14 to 7 midway through the second half after trailing for most of the contest to take a 47-42 lead with 8:06 remaining. ASU extended the lead to as much as seven, 53-46, with 3:41 left in the contest.

Texas A&M-Commerce rallied from the seven-point deficit with a 9-2 run as Wilson tied the contest at 55 with a three pointer at the 1:27 mark. Weishuhn made two free throws with 57 seconds left which proved to be the difference in the game.

The Lions fall to 5-4 on the season and Angelo State raises its record to 4-0.

In the loss, junior Katedria Mosley had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Texas A&M-Commerce. Also in double figures was Jordan, who scored a team-high 15.

The Lady Belles were led by Ashley King, who scored a game-high 16. In addition, Meghann LeJeune had a double-double for the Lady Belles with 14 points and 10 rebounds; plus, Kendra Lakey was in double figures with 10.

The Lions will wrap up a season-long, five-game road trip with a 2 pm match up against Abilene Christian on Saturday in another Lone Star Conference crossover game.
