Lions Rally for 58-55 Win Over Incarnate Word

Nov. 24, 2006

Box Score

Kingsville, Texas

The Texas A&M-Commerce women's basketball team rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Incarnate Word, 58-55, in the first game of the 2006 Emerald Beach Holiday Inn Turkey Day Shootout in Kingsville on Friday night.

The Lions were held to a season-low 16 points on eight field goals in the first half by the Cardinals before blistering the nets for a season-high 62.5% in the second half on the strength of 15-for-24 shooting for the come-from-behind win. With the win, Texas A&M-Commerce raises its record to 4-2 and Incarnate Word falls to 1-4.

With foul trouble plaguing the Lions backcourt, the frontline tandem of Katedria Mosley and Dominee Evans combined to outscore the Cardinals 32-18. Mosley scored a game-high 19 to lead the Lions and Evans came off the bench to score 13. Both Mosley and Evans scored 11 in the second half to spark A&M-Commerce. Senior guard Kanani Marshal was also in double figures with 10 points for the Lions. UIW guard Kim Robinson led the Cardinals with 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Trailing by 14 at the halftime break, the Lions outscored the Cardinals 20-4 in the first 9:56 of the second half to take a 36-34 lead for the first advantage since 2-0 in the opening 13 seconds of the contest.

The two teams exchanged leads until senior Rashida Wilson hit her only three pointer of the contest to put the Lions in front 49-47 with 4:29 left in the contest. The Cardinals would manage to tie the contest at 51 but four-straight points and a steal by Marshal gave the Lions a lead they would not give up en route to the win.

Next for the Lions is a match up against St. Mary's of Texas at 4 p.m. The Rattlers are picked to finish second in the Heartland Conference. All the action can be heard live online at www.lionathletics.com or on KGVL (1400 AM) and (93.5 FM).
