Lions Down Tarleton State 97-77, Jordan Ties School Record With 43 Points

Sophomore guard Britney Jordan tied a school record with 43 points on 11-of-20 shooting to propel Texas A&M-Commerce to a 97-77 victory over Tarleton State in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Tuesday at the A&M-Commerce Field House. Jordan connected on 5-of-11 three-pointers and went 16-for-18 from the free throw line to tie the A&M-Commerce scoring record of 43 points which was set by Meshell Graham on Feb. 6, 1988 against Eastern New Mexico. She also added a team-high seven rebounds and five assists, in the victory. Senior guard Kanani Marshal scored 16 points and senior forward Tradawn Short added 13 points to lead the Lions to the quarterfinal win. Senior guard Katie Crawford scored a team-high 21 points to pace the TexAnns, while Krystal Cole and JoAnne Jones pitched in 17 and 14 points, respectively. A&M-Commerce (23-8) opened the contest on a 10-2 run, but Tarleton State used the strength of an 8-2 run to close the Lions advantage to two points, 12-10, six minutes into the first half. Tarleton State (16-10) came back to tie the contest at 34, but a Jordan three-pointer gave the Lions a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest as they took a 42-39 lead into halftime. The Lions outscored Tarleton State 16-6 in the paint and scored 13 points off of 11 TexAnn turnovers in the first half. Jordan scored 31 points in the second half and at one point, scored nine consecutive Lions points to give the Lions an insurmountable advantage. A&M-Commerce connected on 28-of-55 (50.9%) field goals for the contest and held Tarleton State to just 36% shooting from the field in the second half to seal the victory. With the win, the Lions host the remainder of the Lone Star Conference Tournament and will face Angelo State at 8 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals at the A&M-Commerce Field House. The other semifinal contest will tip-off at 6 p.m. as West Texas A&M battles Central Oklahoma.
