Lions Secure First-Ever LSC North Title in 84-60 Win Over Cameron

The Texas A&M-Commerce women's basketball team clinched its first-ever Lone Star Conference title with an 84-60 rout of host Cameron on Wednesday night. The Lions began the contest with an 13-0 spurt against the Aggies and never trailed in the contest.

Texas A&M-Commerce (21-8, 9-2 LSC North) outscored Cameron on points inside the paint by a 36-14 margin. An aggressive Lions defense forced CU into 21 turnovers which led to 26 points for Texas A&M-Commerce.

Four Lions scored in double figures, including a team-high 20 from the reigning LSC North Division Player of the Week senior Kanani Marshal. 18 of those for Marshal came on six three pointers, who has hit 115 three pointers on the season for the seventh most in Division II history. She was joined in double figures by sophomore Britney Jordan and junior Katedria Mosley, who both added 15, junior Katedria Mosley and junior Tradawn Short poured in 15 and 10 points, respectively. Cameron (4-22, 2-10 LSC North) got a game-high 26 from Tiffany Williams to lead the Aggies.

At halftime the Lions led 42-23, outscoring the Aggies 18-3 on points off turnovers and 26-2 on points in the paint. Marshal scored a game-high 11 and Jordan added nine to lead Texas A&M-Commerce; plus for the sixth time on the season, the Lions shot at a clip at or above 50%. In addition to its offensive dominance, the Texas A&M-Commerce defense held Cameron to 24.1% shooting - the lowest output by an A&M-Commerce opponent since the season opener against Lock Haven.
 

 

By way of a 77-49 win by Southeastern Oklahoma State on Wednesday night over Central Oklahoma, the Lions clinch their first-ever Lone Star Conference North Division title in school history.

The Lions will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State at 2 pm at the A&M-Commerce Field House. Texas A&M-Commerce has won 24 of its last 25 home games.
