WILSON HIGHLIGHTS LION COMEBACK OVER SOUTHEASTERN, 81-76

COMMERCE, Texas - Rashida Wilson scored the second-known triple-double in Lion history in leading the A&M-Commerce women to a convincing second-half comeback Saturday afternoon at the Field House over Southeastern Oklahoma State, 81-76, in Lone Star Conference North Division action. The Lions, now 14-11 overall and 6-4 in the North, tied the team record for wins in a season and captured their 11th consecutive win at home this season. That's their longest winning streak at home in any season and matches the 1996-97 Lions for the most wins at the Field House. Wilson had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and a tied a conference high for the season with 14 assists. Althea Byfield recorded a triple-double (21 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 steals) last season against Texas Woman's. The Lady Savages (8-17, 2-8 North) used a 14-0 run in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 46-33 lead with 1:23 before the intermission. Wilson would close the half with a jumper with five seconds remaining. Leading 46-35 at the half, the Lady Savages at one point were shooting better than 60 percent from behind the arc in the opening half. The ninth-leading 3-point shooting team in the nation was 12-of-27 for the game. Lora Loy scored 19 points on 5-of-7 3-point shooting. The second half proved a different story, with a 46-30 scoring advantage in favor of the Lions. Marshal would score 14 points in the final 20 minutes, as Wilson added 10 points and 11 assists in the period. Five Lions scored in double figures for the third time this season--including Katedria Mosley with 14, Dawn Montgomery with 10, and Tradawn Short 11.
A 3-pointer from Lora Loy would put Southeastern up 58-56 with five minutes gone in the second half. Althea Byfield led the Lion comeback with two jumpers the next three minutes, and Wilson cut the deficit down to two with under 10 minutes remaining. A Marshal free throw tied the game at 62. Mixed in with a Byfield basket, Loy would give the Lady Savages two additional threes and the lead at 70-66. With two more buckets, Short tied the game again at 70-all down on the blocks, where the Lions scored an incredible 54 points in the paint. From there, Marshal put the Lions up with consecutive 3-point baskets and the winning points with a jumper to put the Lions up 78-72 with 1:45 to play. Marshal made three blocks, and Short cleared nine boards. Jessica Hocker led the Lady Savages with a game-high 20 points. Sami Jo Cotton-Black had 14 points and Loretta Ledford 10. The Lions will play their final regular season game at home this season against Cameron (Okla.) on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. It's also the final "NIght Out at the Field House" promotion of the season. +++A&M-C+++
