Texas A&M-Commerce Falls to UCO, 84-64

An 11-0 run midway through the first half and a 14-4 run midway through the second half sparked host University of Central Oklahoma to an 84-64 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday night at the Hamilton Field House. The Lions (17-8, 5-2 LSC North) were led by Britney Jordan, who scored 21 - 12 in the second half - Kanani Marshal scored 11 points and Katedria Mosley added 10. The Bronchos (11-11, 5-3 LSC North) Lizzie Brenner recorded a double-double with a game-high 29 points and 13 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Cassidy Pillow, who scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead UCO. In the win, they shot 54.4% from the field. After both teams exchanged three pointers to start the contest, the Bronchos scored on seven of their next nine possessions to take an 18-7 lead with 13:59 left in the first half. UCO would never relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Bronchos extended the margin to as much as 19 in the first half, leading 31-12, with 7:11 left. The Lions closed out the opening half with a 12-3 run to trail by seven, 39-32. Marshal scored 11 points to lead the Lions and Jordan added nine. UCO spread the scoring around seven players, including 10 by Brenner. Central Oklahoma started the second half, like it did the first - with a three pointer. After opening the game with its outside play, the Bronchos went to its inside game in the second half, scoring 24 points in the paint. With UCO holding a 50-40 advantage with 16:51 left, the Bronchos went on a 14-4 spurt over the next three minutes to extend the margin to 20, 64-44. Down the stretch, the Lions could get as close as 12.
The Lions will return home for its next contest on Saturday as they host Northeastern Oklahoma at 2 pm at the A&M-Commerce Field House. Texas A&M-Commerce has won 22 of its last 23 games at home.
