Jordan Leads A&M-Commerce to 86-80 Overtime Win Over Abilene Christian

Junior Britney Jordan made six of eight free throws over the final 1:52 to lead No. 18 Texas A&M-Commerce to an 86-80 overtime win over Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce Field House.

Jordan, who was held without a free throw until the 1:52 mark, but it was a jumper with 2:17 left in the extra stanza that tied the contest at 80. After tying the contest, the junior from Peoria made six of eight free throws down the stretch for the victory.

Jordan scored a game-high 29 to lead three Lions in double figures to snap a two-game losing streak for A&M-Commerce as they raise their overall record to 11-4. She was joined in double digits by teammates Katedria Mosley and Brittany Williams, who added 10 points apiece. In addition, senior Melissa Bratton turned in a strong all-around game, scoring nine points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out six assists.

Abilene Christian (6-7) got a team-high 24 points from Alex Guiton, who made four-of-nine three pointers, scoring 21 of them in the final 25 minutes. She was joined in double figures by Kristee Davidson, who added 22 - 11 of them in the first half and Jamie Meyer chipped in 11.

After falling behind early 4-0, A&M-Commerce was in the lead until the 14:17 mark of the second half when Guiton tied it at 46 with a jumper. The Lions came right back with a 4-0 run, but the Wildcats came back with a 5-0 spurt to take a 51-50 lead with 10:32 left in regulation.

Again, the Lions had an answer for the visiting Wildcats with an 11-2 run to take an eight-point lead, 61-53, with 7:26 left. The lead was not safe as ACU knocked down a three pointer on three of its seven possessions to trim the Lions lead to 70-66 with 3:11 remaining.
 

 

Following back-to-back lay ups by the Wildcats' Jamie Meyer and Kat Kundmueller; Abilene Christian tied the game at 70-70. Another lay up by Meyer, put ACU in front 72-70 with 31 seconds remaining, but a lay up by an open Dominee Evans with seven seconds remaining tied it and the two teams went to overtime.

In the extra session, Jordan took over the contest as she scored 13 of the Lions' 14 points for the victory.

The remainder of the schedule for the Lions will be the rigorous Lone Star Conference North Division, starting on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
