Lions Football Recognized in Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine

June 18, 2008

With the start of football season, just a few months away, Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine arrived on newsstands today.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce football team is picked to finish fourth in the Lone Star Conference. The publication ranked the Lone Star Conference members as an entire conference rather than separate pre-season polls for the North and South Division.

Picked ahead of the Lions are three members of the South Division - West Texas A&M, Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. A&M-Commerce is picked the highest among the five members of the North Division. The 2008 season will get underway on Saturday, August 30th against Southland Conference, NCAA Championship Bowl Sub-Division member Northwestern State.

The Lions will return 46 letterwinners from a 2007 squad that shared the program's first-ever Lone Star Conference North Division title. Among the returnees are all-region performers, Nabil El-Amin, Elliot Jones and Darron Sheppard as well as six all-LSC North Division selections including El-Amin, Jones and Sheppard. Head Coach Scotty Conley returns for his fifth year as the head coach.
