On the strength of a balanced offensive attack - 204 yards on the ground and 192 through the air and three field goals by junior kicker Chris Quiroga led Texas A&M-Commerce to its second-straight win on Saturday afternoon over Northeastern State, 30-3.

In addition to its on-going offensive success, the A&M-Commerce defense held Northeastern State to 113 yards of total offense. The 113 yards of total offense by the RiverHawks is the lowest output by an A&M-Commerce opponent in 2007 and the lowest since 1997.

Texas A&M-Commerce (3-5 overall and 2-1 LSC North) junior running back Nabil El-Amin had his second-straight 100-yard game; running for a season-high 120 yards on 27 carries. Junior quarterback Terry Mayo completed 17 of 36 passes for two touchdowns and 192 yards in the win. Plus, the multiple Lions' attack featured eight-different receivers and six-different rushers. Junior defensive end Marcus Smith had a team-high eight tackles, including a tackle for minus two yards to lead the defense.

In the loss for Northeastern State (1-6 overall and 1-2 LSC North), quarterback Jarrett Beal was more of a threat on kickoff returns than directing the RiverHawks offense as he returned four kicks for 112 yards.

The two teams were tied at three early into the second quarter when the Lions scored on back-to-back possessions, including a 30-yard touchdown from Mayo to JaMichael Palmer and the second of three field goals by Quiroga to take a 13-3 lead.

On the second play of the second half, NSU quarterback Joe Hogan fumbled the ball on an option play that was recovered by the Lions' Mark Fisher. Three plays later, Mayo found Chris Miller on a fade route for a 19-yard touchdown completion to put A&M-Commerce in front 20-3. The Lions added to their lead in the fourth quarter on a 31-yard field goal by Quiroga that culminated an 11 play, 40-yard drive. Senior Eddie Moss put the finishing touches on the contest with three-straight carries, including a 15-yard touchdown run with 5:04 left in the game for the final margin.

The 204 yards on the ground for A&M-Commerce are the most since last year's season finale against Southwestern Oklahoma. The Lions defense has held a team less than 100 yards on four occasions and under 125 yards on six occasions.

Next, A&M-Commerce will host Angelo State in its annual homecoming contest at 2 pm at Memorial Stadium. Former Lions gridiron teams - the 1957 and 1972 teams - and former standout John Ray Gilliam will be inducted into the A&M-Commerce Hall of Fame. The Lions overall record on homecoming is 42-26-1.
