In his first start as the Texas A&M-Commerce quarterback Trent Miller threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns as the Lions beat the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 24-7 at Memorial Stadium.

The loss raises the Lions record to 1-2 and the Javelinas fall to 0-2 for the first time since 2000.

Miller, who was playing in front of former Lions standout and Dallas Desparados quarterback Clint Dolezel, connected with six-different receivers, including senior JaMichael Palmer, who had four receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

The Lions defense rose to the occasion, holding the Javelinas to a 129 yards of total offense in the game. In addition, they forced five turnovers in the contest. The Lions were led by senior defensive tackle Luis Lujan, who also was making his first collegiate start, had 10 tackles, including two sacks for minus seven yards as well as a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Next, the Lions will take to the road face No. 11 West Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m.
