Commerce, Texas

Texas A&M-Commerce senior guard Lamar Searight was named to the First Team All-Lone Star Conference North Division as the Lone Star Conference men's basketball postseason awards were announced Tuesday by league officials.

The senior from Pontiac, Michigan has raised his game in his final season since earning honorable mention honors, last year. He leads the team and is 17th in the conference in scoring (15.4 ppg) and has scored in double figures in 20 games. He also leads the team with 3.9 assists per game and is 12th in the LSC and is the team leader in steals with 1.78 per game and ninth in the conference.

Lions teammates Bobby Joshua, Champ Sylvester and Kevin Widemond were named honorable mention all-conference.

Searight was joined on the All-LSC North Division first team by Southeastern Oklahoma State teammates Eric Babers and Jason Stampley, along with Anthony Brown and Sam Belt of Central Oklahoma. Babers was also named the player of the year in the North Division. SOSU's Steve Harrel was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while Southwestern Oklahoma's Nate Perry earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Freshman of the Year accolades went to UCO's Eric Cazenave and SOSU's Tony Robinson was Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The Lions will begin the Lone Star Conference Tournament tonight at 8 pm at West Texas A&M in Canyon.
