Scooby Johnson and Rashad Brown Record Double Double Performances in 100-92 Loss to St. Edward's

Dec. 30, 2007

Box Score

Senior Scooby Johnson and junior Rashad Brown each recorded a double double, but five Hilltoppers in double figures led host St. Edward's to a 100-92 over Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sunday afternoon.

After a pair of free throws by Kevin Widemond cut the Hilltoppers lead to 82-80 with 6:14 left in the game, St. Edward's answered with a 15-1 run over the next 5:03 to put the game out of reach.

Johnson scored a game-high 31 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Lions en route to all-tournament team honors and Brown pulled down 15 rebounds to go with 10 points. The 15 rebounds by Brown are the most by a Lion since Clay Lewkowski grabbed 15 boards at Abilene Christian on February 5, 2004. Johnson and Brown were joined in double figures by Widemond, who added 20 and Derrick Darkis chipped in 10.

Shawn Weinstead led the Hilltoppers with 28 points to pace five St. Edward's players in double figures. He was joined by Daniel Pierre, who tallied 17, Jannik Zimmer chipped in 15, Dian Ivanov and Cory Griffin each added 10.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-7 on the season and St. Edward's raises its record to 6-4.

The Lions will return to the hardwood in a rematch against Southern Arkansas, who the Lions defeated 74-64 in Magnolia on Dec. 15, on January 1st at 4:00 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
