Midwestern State Snaps Two-Game Winning Streak for the Lions

Jeremy Ford of Midwestern State hit back-to-back three pointers midway through the second half to lead the visitors to a 71-59 win over Texas A&M University-Commerce on Saturday afternoon at the A&M-Commerce Field House.

With the game tied at 43, Ford hit consecutive three pointers on back-to-back possessions that put the Mustangs in front for the remainder of the game. The Lions managed to claw back with a 7-0 run to get within two, 56-54; but Midwestern State retaliated with a 10-0 run that ended any chances for an A&M-Commerce comeback effort.

A&M-Commerce (2-6) had three players in double figures, including a 16-point effort from senior Scooby Johnson. He was joined in double digits by a career-high 14 from Derrick Darkis and 10 from Lance Jackson.

Midwestern State (3-4) got a game-high 23 points from Chris Davis, who also added 12 rebounds in the win. Plus, Ford joined Davis in double figures with 15 points. In the win, the Mustangs capitalized on 22 second-chance points and outscored the Lions 14-3 on points off turnovers.

The Lions will be out-of-conference for its next four games, including the next three away from the Field House, including a matchup on Saturday at Southern Arkansas in Magnolia at 7 pm.
