Dec. 6, 2007

Box Score

When senior Kevin Widemond hit a three pointer with 12:49 left in the first half to put the Lions in front 13-10, A&M-Commerce never trailed for the remainder of the contest in a 72-52 win over Tarleton State on Thursday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.

A&M-Commerce (2-5) senior Scooby Johnson led all scorers with 21 points to pace four Lions in double digits. He was joined by Champ Sylvester added 14, Lance Jackson tallied 13 and Widemond chipped in 10.

Tarleton State (4-2) landed three players in double digits, including 13 from Limar Wilson, 11 from Jeffrey Henfield and 10 from Terrence Gamble.

After the Widemond three pointer, the Lions went on a 13-3 run to take a 26-13 advantage with 5:54 remaining in the first half. Tarleton State managed to cut the lead to five by the halftime break, 32-27 when Wilson hit a running jumper before the halftime buzzer.

In the second half, Tarleton State closed within four, 50-46, with 9:11 left in the game. Energized by the 582 fans the Lions came back with a 22-4 run to end any chances of a second half comeback by the Texans. During the run, Johnson scored five-straight points and Widemond added four in a row to spark A&M-Commerce.

The Lions will put its two-game winning streak on the line on Saturday at 4 pm when they host Midwestern State at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
