A&M-Commerce Loses to Palm Beach Atlantic, 72-68

A three-point play by Palm Beach Atlantic guard Ian Maddison sparked a 14-5 run in the second half led the Sailfish to a 72-68 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday night in Stephensville, Texas.

The Sailfish (1-1) made eight three pointers in the second half and held A&M-Commerce to 38.7% shooting from the field to hand the Lions their second-straight loss to open the season. A&M-Commerce (0-2) begins the season with back-to-back losses for the first time since the 1992-93 campaign.

One of the hot shooters from beyond the arc in the second 20 minutes for PBA was guard Manny Lopez, who made a team-high three and teammate David Powell. Lopez added 17 and Powell added 10 in the second 20 minutes. Lopez led all scorers with 23 points and Powell chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

A&M-Commerce senior Scooby Johnson scored 19 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss for his first double double as a Lion. Johnson was joined in double figures by Lance Jackson, who added 16, Champ Sylvester added 11 and Kevin Widemond added 10.

A&M-Commerce will begin the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Ouachita Baptist.
