LIONS OPEN UP CONFERENCE PLAY WITH AN OVERTIME LOSS

Jan. 18, 2006

Final Stats

EDMOND,Okla. - The Lions (10-6, 0-1) opened up division play against the Bronchos, losing in a tough fought overtime game, 84-75. A&M-C was outscored by the Bronchos 14-5 as they opened up conference play at 0-1.

With just 32.5 seconds left, the Bronchos cushioned their lead after a technical foul was called on Jermart Miller to give UCO their ninth win of the season and first win in LSC North Division play.

In what was a close contest throughout the night, the Lions forced the Bronchos to go into overtime, after being tied at 70 at the end of regulation.

Down by six in OT, A&M-C found their way out of the deficit when Jason Rabb hit one behind the arc to pull the Lions within one 76-75. But an amount of free throws would turn the game around.

In a tough first half, the Lions walked into the lockerroom all tied up at 33, after leading the majority of the period. The second half remained the same until a foul was called on Kevin Walker with 13:51 left in the game to take UCO to the free throw line and give them a four point lead, which was the biggest lead for the Bronchos in the game.

Jermart Miller changed the momentum of the game, when he hit one behind the arc with 4:50 left on the clock to pull the Lions in within four once again. The senior came back with 3:15 left to score two shots behind the line to make the score 66-63, in the favor of the Bronchos.

Chris Fantroy came back a minute later and scored his first trey of the game to put A&M-C within one. After missing two free throw shots with over a minute left, guard Lamar Searight stole the ball away on a Bronchos inbound, drawing a foul on UCO to walk back to the other side of the court and sink two shots behind the line, tying the game at 68.

Three Lions scored in double figures with Jermart Miller leading all scorers with 14 points. Jason Rabb contributed with 12 points, while Ellis Kidd recorded 10.

Sam Belt and Anthony Brown both scored 18 points to lead the Bronchos. Belt also brought in 11 boards to record a double-double for the night.

The Lions will head home to face Northeastern State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled to start after the ending of the women's game.
