Lions Rally Fall Short in 91-88 Overtime Loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville

Despite a 11-1 run to force overtime, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team dropped a 91-88 decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 77-66 A&M-Commerce (5-8) senior Scooby Johnson sparked the Lions scoring 10 of the next 11 points for the Lions to force overtime. Down the stretch, Johnson started the run with a three pointer at the 1:33 mark and made six of seven free throws to cause the extra session.

In the extra session, the host Javelinas (11-2) scored the final three points en route to the win. After a dunk by A&M-Commerce senior Lance Jackson put the Lions in front 88-87 with 38 seconds remaining, Texas A&M-Kingsville's Clyde Johnson scored on a lay up and Adam Montlavo hit two free throws with two seconds remaining to close out the game.

For the game, Johnson led all scorers with 28 points as all five A&M-Comerce starters scored in double figures. He was joined by Jackson, who added 18 and Leonard Bishop chipped in 14. Plus, Rashad Brown nearly had a double double with 11 points and nine rebounds as well as Kevin Widemond added 10 points.

Montlavo led A&M-Kingsville with 18 points as the host Javelinas had four in double figures, including Reggie Love with 16, Clyde Johnson with 15 and Wendell Mulkey with 11.
