Sophomore Tyler Tyndell led the Texas A&M University-Commerce cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday morning in College Station. The Paris, Texas native crossed the line in 25:47 for a 20th-place finish.

Francis Ksagule of Lamar was the individual winner, crossing the line in 24:11. In a meet that featured all Division I teams, except for the Lions, A&M-Commerce showed improvement said head coach Rich Lawrence. Texas A&M won the team title with five runners in the top 12.

In addition to the performance by Tyndell, the Lions landed all five runners in the top 50. A&M-Commerce sophomores Alfredo Soto and Gerardo Delafuente were 32nd (26:39) and 38th (26:59), respectively. Also, Brandon Womack and Robert Reed were 45th (27:30) and 46th (27:31), respectively. To round out the A&M-Commerce lineup, freshman Kasie Carrell was 60th in 28:53, freshman Kelly Logan was 63rd in 29:10 and senior Lance Smith was 91st in 33:53.

On the women's side, the Lions were in a tight pack and led by the 62nd-place finish of freshman Kate Donovan, who covered the 5k course in 22:42. Right behind her were teammates Janna Lane, who was 63rd (23:21) and Esther Fernandez, who was 64th (23:49).
 

 

Like the men's race, Rice won the team title with five runners in the top 12. The Owls also had the individual winner as Marissa Daniels won the race in 17:19. A&M-Commerce finished 11th in the Division I filled field.

The remainder of the Lions lineup was in a tight pack including Mikesha Brewer, who was 73rd (26:29), Amanda Martin, who was 74th (26:43) and Leslea Taylor, who was 75th (26:47).

The next race for the Lions is the Memphis Twilight in two weeks on Saturday, October 6th.
