COMMERCE, Texas - Six-time All-American sprinter Delrick Taylor advanced on to the final heat in the 100-meter dash Thursday afternoon as he clocked in a 10.55 time at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship. This year's meet is being held on the Emporia University campus in Emporia, Kan.

The 10.55 second sprint was Taylor's second best performance of the season, behind his 10.51 race at the UTA Open 18 days ago in Arlington, Texas, which was held at the UTA campus. Taylor will take the stage this Saturday for the final time as a Lion as he goes for his seventh straight All-America award.

Other performers making strides today were hurdler J'wan Mitchell and distance runner Niki Williams. Mitchell placed sixth in his heat and 13th overall in the 400 meter hurdles, clocking in with a 52.82 time, to just miss the final race which will take place this Saturday.

Williams ran in the 3000 meter steeplechase to try and advance on the finals which is also scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The Fayetteville, Ark., native came in at 11:29.36 placing seventh in her heat and 13th overall, with the top 12 runners advancing on.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will continue on Friday with no Lion scheduled to perform until Saturday's events. Joining Taylor on Saturday will be thrower Larry Gilbert who is scheduled to throw in the discus. This is Gilbert's debut as a Lion thrower at the NCAA DII track and field meet.
