May 7, 2006

Final Results

ARLINGTON, Texas - Distance runner Niki Williams shattered the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase highlighting the UTA Open for the Lions Saturday afternoon.

Williams clocked in an 11:06.17 time shattering the school record for the third time this season. Despite the high barriers she had to hurdle over, Williams managed to run the best time in her career just going over the 11 minute mark.

The Fayetteville, Ark., native, who has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, just placed herself in the Lions record book as the best steeplechase runner.

Two other Lions also had outstanding performances at the Open. Sprinter Delrick Taylor who ran his best time in the 100-meter dash in Arlington just a month ago, went for another best mark at the same stadium running a 10.51 time in the event winning his heat and finishing seventh overall. The time is Taylor's best performance this year and is ranked as the top time for the Lions.

Mid-distance runner Amos Davidson ran a top time in the 800-meter dash clocking a 1:56.70 time, taking first in his heat and finishing ninth overall. It was Davidson's best run of the year and he is currently ranked as the top runner in the 800-meter dash for the Lions.

Field event performers Ryan Graves and Larry Gilbert finished second and third in the shot put. Graves tossed a 15.61m (51-2.75) throw to finish second, while Gilbert threw 14.42m (47-3.75) toss to come right behind his teammate at third.

Julie Jordan finished in the top five at the Open. She threw a 44.27m (145-3) toss to place.

The Lions will finish off the season before heading to the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships at the MSU Invitational in Joplin, Mo., on May 10.
