Sheppard Earns All-American Honors in the Discus

Texas A&M-Commerce junior Darron Sheppard earned All-American honors on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a fifth-place throw in the discus with a season-best throw of 167-8. The Longview, Texas native qualified for the finals with his second throw of 161-8 in the preliminaries.

Sheppard becomes the third Texas A&M-Commerce thrower to earn All-American honors in the discus, joining J.R. Hanley and Larry Leverman. Senior teammate Larry Gilbert finished 15th with a throw of 152-6.

It is the fifth year that the Lions had multiple performers at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
