Dean Laing Finishes Fourth at York Relays

March 11, 2008

The York Relays hosted by Sam Houston State were cancelled on Friday, March 7th due to inclement weather, but since the multi events began a day earlier meet officials elected to finish the decathlon.

Texas A&M University-Commerce junior Dean Laing rose from seventh place after day one to finish fourth in a field of entirely Division I competition with 5,389 points. Laing had the best javelin throw in seven-person field with a toss of 146-6, second in the 1,500-meter run (4:44.84) and third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.80) and pole vault (10-2).

He posted a time of 11.61 in the 100-meter dash, a jump of 18-2 1/4 in the long jump and a throw of 36-11 1/2 in the shot put.

Laing and the Lions will resume its track and field season on Thursday at the Tarleton State Relays in Stephenville, Texas.
