The Texas A&M-Commerce track and field team opened up its season on Saturday at the 2007 Trinity Invitational. The field portion of the team led the Lions with eight top-five finishes.

In the high jump, Leslie White posted the only event victory for the Lions on the afternoon. The sophomore cleared 6-3 ½ and teammate Kyle Thompson was third with a leap of 6-1 ½.

Texas A&M-Commerce had four in the top 10 in the shot put. Ryan Graves had a toss of 49-1 ½ (14.97m) and Larry Gilbert had a throw of 48-9 ½ (14.87m) to finish third and fourth, respectively. Darron Sheppard and Sean McKinney were eighth 43-3 ¾ (13.20m) and ninth (42-2 (12.85m), respectively

The Lions landed three in the top 10 in the discus led by Gilbert, who was second with a throw of 146-3 ½ (44.59m). Graves was fourth with a throw of 138-10 ½ (42.33m) and Sheppard was fifth with a toss of 136-6 (41.60m).

Thrower Brittany Fisher picked up pair of third-place finishes in the shot put 34-2 ¾ (10.43m) and in the discus 125-1 ¾ (38.15m). Teammate Caylin Taylor earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put 32-10 ¼ (10.01m) and sixth in the discus 105-5 (32.14m).

On the track, the top performance for the Lions came from Thompson, who was second in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.00. Leonard Jackson was third in the 200-meter dash (23.10).
 

 

Next week, the Lions will compete at the Howard Payne Relays in Brownwood, Texas.
